Life Has Meaning
14 Dec 2009
Today, our most elder advisory board member made her transition: The Honorable Erma L. Henderson. She was 92. After shedding lots of tears and calling close friends who also knew her, I reflected over the past 5 weeks which have been filled with persons who I personally know leaving this plane of existence.
Yesterday, I delivered the sermon at the church where I attend and my topic was "The in-between time: Lord have mercy." Someday, I will record and leave it here. But, for now, just know that it was a reflection on the three previous deaths that had occurred within weeks of each other. The first was a sister and brother who had always been very close and as long as I had known them, had actually resided in the same house together. They were both in and out of the hospital with various illnesses. This time, he was in the hospital before her. She transitioned first and he the day after. When she was found at home, they took her to the hospital and she was on the same floor in the same hospital as her brother. Just before they shut off her life-support, he was wheeled around to see her. The next evening he passed also. I had never attended a double funeral before. Even though they both looked so peaceful and the brother even had a smile on his face, it was extremely sad.
Then a sister-friend of mine had gotten married and her husband died 14 days after the wedding. The funeral was last week. They shipped the body to his home town but on the way, the body fell out of the bottom of the casket. Once that was solved, when they got the body to the cemetery, the casket was too large for the grave!
And, now Mother Henderson. Her's was not quite so bazaar as either of the others, as it was reported that she died of natural causes.
I was drawn here this evening because of an article The Doorway to the Meaning of Life by Owen Waters sent to me in a periodic email newsletter that I receive. I wanted to share it with you.
Over all of my years, Life is forever seeking satisfaction for itself. This is the only definition that is reasonable to and for me. This will have to be sufficient.
Blessings to all of you as we draw near the end of 2009 of the Christian era.

No, this article is not about the mentally challenged, nor staff in mental institutions. But I always liked that movie and the title and thought I would use it here. Who knows, it just might apply.
Recently, a dear friend who is constantly looking out for healthy methods to treat everything sent me the link to this article:
Well, that caught my attention! I still remember years ago when my mother used remedies that today might be illegal (or maybe the ingredients would be illegal). I'm not quite sure anymore. But, they worked! Things like paregoric, turpentine, and the like. All in specific doses at specific times. We always said that "older people know things that the rest of us don't know." Well, it may very well be true. I think that I'm a "living" witness to some of the old methods of healing.
Take a few minutes and read the article and then write back and let me know what you think about it. I'll post your as time and space allows.

Wandering through life looking for its meaning can be a
heart-rending task. You begin life looking to your parents for
meaning, then to your teachers and friends until, one day,
you're grown-up, educated, and still clueless.
You stand there, thinking that there has to be a reason why
you're here on this earth because you are constantly haunted
from within by a sense of knowing that a reason really does
exist. If only you could remember what it was.
At some point in your life, you look up from the hypnotizing
clamor of daily existence and seek meaning in that which is
above the physical realm of existence. In that moment, when
your attention is focused on whatever higher consciousness may
bring, you are receptive to new ideas and new information.
