Building Peace for the World's Children
Founding History
It did not begin in the presence of others.
It began in the fall of 1985 with a small woman sitting in her living room watching a movie. The theme was war -- the message was clear and she would never be the same. Over the next 10 years, she wrestled with the images left by the film.
In 1986, she allowed herself to spend time with more and more babies left behind by war and strife. They were everywhere and she could feel their pain and sadness. Years passed and she learned to suppress and redirect the agony of innocence. But the vision persisted: details of a place where children could come, live, play, and share in peace and where care and compassion replaced fear and destruction -- where they could be free to offer solutions to the world's problems.
In October, 1997 at a local area college in Michigan, some 30 people came together at the request of the small woman and made a commitment to
- create and maintain an international network of individuals, organizations and corporations who focus and work tirelessly on projects, programs, and on themselves to make peace the center of their lives and state of their communities.
- build a self-sustaining multiplex for children who would come from all over the world to learn, live, share, and play in peace.
- create a world-class trade and tourist center offering over 500 new job opportunities.
These three were and are the force behind the movement that has not stopped to create Peace of the World International for the sake of the world's children.
In January 1987, Dr. C. Crocheron, Founder of Peace of the World International began writing letters to the ambassadors of the world's nations. The following is from those letters:
...We believe that the sword of power is in our words and the fire of destiny burns as we extend our hands in understanding to one another. When we say we are 'this' or we are 'that' the very ground on which we stand becomes proving ground.
Our Goal must be Peace now and Peace for all time. With sincere good wishes, we have begun. Continue with us.
